Dyneema is an ultra-strong, lightweight fibre used in bulletproof vests to help stop bullets and shrapnel. It’s made from ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethene (UHMWPE), which is stronger than steel by weight while still being flexible and comfortable to wear. In body armour, multiple layers of Dyneema absorb and spread the impact of a bullet, helping reduce penetration and blunt force trauma. Its lightweight design also allows for better mobility and all-day wear compared to traditional heavier materials.
Level 3A Dyneema offers higher protection, capable of stopping more powerful handgun threats such as .44 Magnum rounds, while still being lightweight and comfortable. It is slightly thicker and heavier than Level 2 due to the increased ballistic protection. NIJ Level IIIA (SANS 1658:2007)
